Allow the slot that is normaly reserved for the selection of the shield, to double (when have a bow) as the slot for your secondary melee weapon.

Simple concept, and hopefully simple implication in coding.

Simply have the selected bow to take the slot above, and only one-handed weapons be able to fill where currently shields can only reside.

If they try to place a 2-handed weapon or shield, have it take dominance and kick it from equip. Surely you can prevent someone from easily equipping a 2-handed sword or something.

Honestly, I don't know how this is not in yet, especially when you chance the hatchet to the knightly sword. Thought you would do that and lead into customization but I guess it had a reason.

Anyway surely besides the one-handed Morningstar, isn't the knightly sword already one of the most widely accepted powerful standardized one-handers?

Anyway, what's your thoughts? OP, actually hard to implement, not a priority, exa?

There is no reason to not implement this

I have sth different with more options.

Both slots are the same (u can take shield to 1st or 2nd - it doesnt matter).

Player can have up to 2,5 slot points for use.

1h wep = 1slot, 2h wep = 2slots, shield/bow/xbow = 1,5 slot (to not use 2 shields or 2 bows without melee wep)

Knifes/daggers could be as 0,5slot so 2h could use it in close range (like inside castle rooms, stairs etc.)

And allow players to have two 1h weapons in slots (but not as dual wielding).

In the future we can even add stakes, ladders or sth (like in cRPG - proto of OKAM) with 0,5-1,5 slots used

Or... use the slot options from cRPG, with different slot value for all weps (smaller 2h was 1 slot pt, pike was 3 slot pts etc.).

customisable secondary weapons for archers is already planned afaik

In reality and every other game I've played that features medieval combat with archery, archers could surely equip shields.

If I have to think about balance, a shield can be annoying to deal with, and then it might be a lot less viable to bumrush the archers, since they can go into defensive mode and wait to be relieved by their heavy infantry or just block you off so that other archers can shoot you.

The archers that does choose to equip a shield should be balanced by lower movement speed (even though it is already pretty low?) and slightly longer reload speed.

I think it is worth a try, and is easy to tweak or disable later on if there are balance issues. So +1 for definitely worth a try.
