Welcome to the official Of Kings And Men feedback page
Please suggest one idea at a time, even if they're a part of the same suggestion
Since the Epic as originally planned is not very likely to happen and the devs have announced their idea of the "Wilderness" being an open-worldish PvE quests-based area, I would suggest to find a way of combining the strategic Militari map with the open-world Wilderness map so that the game as a whole can function as a meaningful unit and not just offer a couple of unrelated game modes.
PvE and clan-based PvP should both play a role in the open-world map. Clans should have their strongholds and fiefs just as they do on the strategic Militari map. New players and casuals should also be able to join and have fun without fearing to get bothered by high leveled try-hards. The bigger war in De Re Militari should affect the goings-on of the Wilderness map and vice versa.
Both the 2D Militari and the 3D Wilderness map should have certain spots reserved for castles and fiefs to appear. If they don't those spots will stay empty. To keep things concise and interesting castles and fiefs shouldn't be spread out as much within the Wilderness map. Castles could be relatively close to one another, maybe 100 meters apart while fiefs are little more than fenced huts just next to a castle. Castles could look the same way they would in the actual raids but they don't have to. They can be smaller representations of them. As of now, the 2D militari map can accommodate plenty clans but since the 3D open-world map naturally can't expand indefinitely there would have to be a cut. Let's say up to 5 castles can be on one map, any further castle will be put on a separate map which can be another instance of the same map or a totally new one.
Clans will spawn within their stronghold. They and everybody else are safe there since it's a duel area just like the lobby. It is where clans will train and people can go to to chat and join a clan. That way clans would be physically present for everybody and not just a name on a list. Outside of the strongholds is a free PvP zone for all clan members. You can go out with 5 of your buddies and bother unsuspecting members of your enemy clans. It could give you some extra XP for it maybe. Everybody else that's not in a clan shouldn't be bothered by clans. They are there to enjoy the map, make friends or do quests.
In order to make raids on the 2D Militari map more immersive and interesting you could have some pre-raids on the 3D Wilderness map. Those would be scheduled as well and could be done at any time between the scheduling and the actual raid. Let's say the raid is scheduled at 20:00 and your pre-raid at 18:00. When it's 18:00 flags would appear somewhere in the castle or the fief respectively and the attacking side could try to take them or destroy something within it while the defenders would try to stop them from it. This will have some impact on the later battle at 20:00. The victor could either earn some more troops or gold to clothe their troops (which should be a thing to begin with). Of course it should be kept within reasonable limits as to not punish one side too harshly. Pre-Raids should be about fun and immersion first of all. It could either be limited for the people signed up for it or open for everybody who would like to have a fight. That could be changed later depending on how it works.
The devs already told us that there will be PvE quests in the world. Clans could also play a role in it... Maybe a new player gets the quest to deliver "an important message" to King Ferdnand of TKM or any random player who just happens to be logged in. King Ferdnand should then be notified that a messenger is on his way to him so he doesn't randomly log out in the meantime. If he does though the quest will be cancelled. The messenger will get an arrow or something where to go. If the quest is done successfully both will get something for it, XP gold or whatever.
In addition to clan emblems we need gear to be customizable in color, especially surcoats, shields and helmets. The plain white ones won't cut it.
Ideally it wouldn't be just plain colors but a couple of different styles to choose from like one half this color, one half the other or horizontal/diagonal stripes. Whatever fits the 13th century theme.
The actual clan emblems could be optional so it still looks good in the end.
There are several complications with equipment colouring, and while technical issues and UI difficulties could be all solved with time, there are other big questions that would need to be answered before we can guarantee that it will be added. For example, allowing to freely pick colours would definitely lead to obvious immersion breaking by selecting ones that don't fit the century, and providing pre-selected colours would limit the number of designs.
Won't be focusing on pure visual improvements at the moment, since gameplay requires quite a lot of dedication, but will be discussing it further in the future, and will update the state of the idea once there is a conclusion.
Don't care how you do it, just make naked people consistently die in one hit. Going naked shouldn't be a viable game tactic as opposed to wearing armour.
It's actually a pretty complicated change, since it would have to work around the stat system. It would also require a lot of balancing calculations to make sure it wouldn't break anything in the game. It's a good suggestion, and many people like it, but it involves lots of different things, while affecting only a very small part of the game (trolls who run around naked).
Since encumbrance has a starting value, wearing nothing and wearing light armour has no difference on actual stats, so it's basically only a visual change.
Make a clan treasury where players can donate gold to, clan treasury also gains gold when the clan does well in any battle, either as mercenaries or by attacking fiefs themselves.
Clan treasury is needed to make up for the people that dont pay upkeep or need money to progress, they can just take a certain amount by requesting it to the clanleader or assigned member of finances.
idk if it has been suggested already but it will be a huge thing once a lot more people come and join the game, active people in a clan that have a ton of money can provide for the newer people that are short of gold, this will get rid of the consequences following someone that has no gold to pay because of sudden inactivity (sickness/vacation)
We'll be looking for ways to improve the whole upkeep system. Could be that we choose the treasury system, but there are some other ideas like a tax based on your gold amount instead of a flat tax.
I think many of you noticed that getting one shot in the head no matter what helmet you got is normal. Despite the fact helmets are really heavy they dont give you almost any protection against arrows. In my oppinion only those who decided not to take the helmet in favour of speed should be penalized by 1 shot in the head.
I have been thinking what would be the best way how to balance this for a while. Originally I wanted to decrease damage of arrows but its a bad choice because body hits are fairly balanced. Recently I remembered Chivalry had helmets that fell off after getting hit by arrow or throwing weapon. So why not to have this in okam. First hit in the head would stun the knight and he would lose the helmet. Without helmet second hit would be lethal and it doesnt matter if its with arrow or sword.
This will encourage archers to shoot in the legs and body instead of going for easy kills in the head. It will decrease amount of damage build archers/naked archers because even with 15 damage you will be able to 2 shot a guy in the head. With these changes flat bow will be finally a viable option and archers with more armor aswell. Not to mention that with less damage archer sidearm will no longer kill everybody in 2 hits.
I made this suggestion not only to highlight how bad helmets are atm. But also to point out that getting one hit in the head is really frustrating for everybody. I am personally just annoyed but a lot of players especially the new ones are leaving because of that. Perfect example of this are skirmish maps where 40 people manage to leave in matter of 20 minutes just because too many people started to play with the bow. This is actually one of the main reasons why skirmish maps are completely dead right now.
Would be a pretty big feature, so can't say just yet when it can be implemented. Unless helmets simply disappear, would also need work on art and physics engine, but sounds like a really fun thing with helmets dropping off!
Helmets will get a bit of a buff in the next update, since they'll have mail coifs instead of linen coifs, so it might decrease a number of one-hit headshots (melee hits too of course).
The ability to gather your own resources and create your own castle which you can then upgrade, will most likely make most sense to have it on the Militari mode.
Would be interesting to see building on the map, but seems like a quite distant feature if we decide to add it. We did have some ideas for upgrading with resources though, so I'd say partially planned for now.
A lot of people love duelling. Why not have a leaderboard so people can test their skill while still having fun.
I personally would prefer a elo system with small monthly prizes.
We will definitely be adding leaderboards in the future, but won't be able to name specific categories (like pure duel stats) until it gets on to-do list for an update.
Leave jumping in as a means of getting over obstacles but remove the ability to attack while jumping. It's too easy too exploit (i.e. jump slashes to get a headshot in against shielders... not much you can do about it)
It's also immersion breaking.
In the start there where a bunch of old maps for conquest that are now not used anymore just checked with pogo and the maps are stil there maybe the devs can use those maps to ad more maps in conquest so its a bit refreshing and would love to see some old maps back
When the new game mode was implemented, it was necessary to create new maps, since old ones weren't designed to be used with the rules. We might think about tweaking the old maps to make them work with current conquest design, but it would take roughly the same time as creating new maps, so can't promise old maps to return, but will see in the future.
We will add old maps for Skirmish though!
A open world either in lobby or Militari or both, kinda self explanatory here but yea, a open world please.
Wilderness is planned to be added later, which some seem to call a "basic open world", but there are no plans for huge persistent areas. At least not yet.
